The past couple of months have been great! I'll spare most of the details, but suffice to say that my plans regarding work and life in general have been working out very well. Now this, my seventh Daily Deviation! These never get old, and I am just as honored by the seventh as I was by the first. I must extend gratitude to the two dear friends (one of whom I've actually met!), Jan Rockar lightdrafter.deviantart.com/, and Houman hosagu.deviantart.com/ for making this most recent Daily Deviation happen. Thanks guys, you are special!

Perfect End

2 min read
It was the perfect end to an already great day. Having risen early, accompanied by my best friend (my wife), I made the long drive to make a second attempt to climb Ute Mountain. We had been thwarted by bad  road conditions on an earlier attempt to climb this isolated, and seldom summited volcano in the high desert of Northern New Mexico. There are no trails up this mountain, so route finding is a challenge and bushwhacking is the norm. At 10,093 feet Ute is not a particularly significant climb, nor is it technically challenging. What makes this climb special is the prominence of this former fire spewing peak relative to the surrounding isolation of the high desert. The mountain is considered to be a spiritual centerpiece of Northern New Mexico, and it surely was held in high regard by the native populations that once dominated this part of the world. This mountain certainly had a hold on me since the first time I saw it in 2007.

The climb was more difficult than anticipated, but we successfully reached the wooded summit far later than planned. During the entire climb we were accompanied by an assortment of raptors, and we saw numerous signs of the abundant wildlife that inhabit this special place. Returning home after what turned out to be a full day adventure, I was greeted by the wonderful news that I had received my sixth (or is it fifth), Daily Deviation! This was simply the perfect end to an already great day.

Thanks to my good friend Houman  hosagu.deviantart.com/ for making this happen, and giving me the perfect day.

Street photography is fickle. Some days you come home with a basket full of jewels, and others you have nothing but garbage. Being skilled at the art increases your chances, but sometimes it just isn't there. Location can make a difference, but it is no guarantee. A high density of diverse population is the ideal setting but the experienced Streeter can find art anywhere. On some rare occasions everything clicks and potential scenarios for art just roll out in front of you over and over.

One such day occurred for me in September of 2013. It was my first day in Boston Massachusetts with the sole agenda of shooting Street. I wouldn't say that I knew the city well, but I did know where people were guaranteed to be. Over the next several hours I would have the opportunity to make some of my best Street Photography to date. Some of the shots were easy while others required all of the meager skills that I possessed. You never know for sure what you have until you get home, but I felt in "the zone".

Squint by Vermontster

As the hours passed I barely thought about anything, including photography. I didn't stop for anything, I never do. I don't eat, I don't drink, and I only heed the call of nature when it is absolutely essential. I didn't have a plan as I rolled through the core of the city. In and out of the subway system, through parks and markets, into the North End and down to Chinatown.

Amazing things happened right in front of me while I had to dig a bit for others.

In the end, I had what turned out to be possibly my best single day of Street.
